FRED SAYS: Let's Jam!

Have you noticed the “Fred Says” board, promoting PWRDF’s Food Security program? The next fredism is… Let’s Jam!
Featured Project:     Sustainable Agricultural Development (Cuba)
Roberto lives in Havana with his wife, two children and mother-in-law. Two years ago, he received agricultural training from PWRDF’s partner the Cuban Council of Churches (CCC). With help from his two young children, he started a family micro-farm with just one  rabbit, two chickens and some crops, all on the roof  of his house.
Today, Roberto is able to feed his family daily by collecting eggs and meat and preserving a wide range of fruits and vegetables. His farm is so abundant that Roberto is able to generate additional income by selling his surplus of healthy food to the community.

SERMON SNIPPETS

~ from St.George's Birtle
The following is an excerpt from one of Laura Marie's sermons based on Matthew 5:38-48. Her words were so instructive that they are worth  repeating.
God says that we are to be perfect just as He is perfect. “Perfect” here means that we are to be always maturing, to be growing toward completeness in God. It takes effort, and practise and perseverance. But it is worth it, so long as we doing it for the love of God.
We grow by loving others. In turning the other cheek rather than  hitting back, maybe we can learn to overcome fear and stand up for with is right. In giving our cloak and coat, maybe we will see the desperation and need fuelling the actions of those who are unjustly taking from us, thereby allowing us to show compassion to someone who needs it. Maybe by going the second mile, we will meet a new friend on the road and enjoy conversation that we might otherwise have missed.
Maybe in loving our enemies - and not just out friends – we will recognize that at some point, someone loved us first, whether we deserved it or not. Maybe this will remind us that everyone needs to be loved, and prayed for, no matter what their actions. Maybe praying will remind us that loving our families and friends is easy, but loving our enemies and praying for our persecutors is part of the journey of growing toward completeness – for them and for ourselves. Let us aim towards that godly love, that completeness, that perfection that God requires. Let us aim to be perfect just as our heavenly Father is perfect.
